Comment on BPI, BDO, or Metrobank Fees — Why Keep Paying Them? by Catherine Oplas

Hi Nora, Can the return check fee be waived? If yes, how? It was an honest mistake that I forgot the due date of my car loan with psbank and they charged me of 2200 pesos plus 439 for the interest. Instead of 19th, I funded my checking account the next day, 20th. I have been a good payer and this is the first time that it happened. Thanks in advance!

Hi Catherine, so sad but I think they won’t refund the return check fee in this case because the check was really funded late. The check was returned to PCHC before 7 am of the 20th. But of course you should call your bank and try. Even if you’ll be denied, at least you tried. Call also about the 439 loan interest and ask it to be waived since you’ve been a good payor — this might have a better chance of being waived. Whew, that’s a lot of interest/penalty per day.

Hello po. Question po, I’ve been a member of philhealth for over 5 years now only to find my previous employers did not remit my contribution. Only my first 1st company remitted, but incomplete. last contribution is around 2012. Now I’m expected to give birth this July, very near. and hassle if I’d go after my previous employers in Manila, as I’m in the province since I’m no longer working. Can I pay a whole year in advance or any no. of months required and use my philhealth this July which is no more than 2 months away. Please advise po. thanks!

Hi Marianne, you pay ASAP for April to June so you can use Philhealth in July. It’s good also if you pay Apr to Sep so your coverage is continuous. Pay at Philhealth so you can update your records and get a new MDR. Fill up the registration form and check FOR UPDATING. Bring your ID.

Hi Joan, sorry I can’t call BDO in your behalf because BDO, like other banks, has privacy policies. You can call BDO from Saudi tollfree via landline 800-863-0011. If you have sent money from abroad to your Kabayan account within the past 12 months, then your account is most likely active.

Hi Dada, yes, unpaid SSS loans really balloon fast. The annual interest rate is 10%. Penalty is 1% of any unpaid amount due every month. This is where the loan balloons — the penalty is imposed on unpaid principal, unpaid interest and unpaid penalties from month to month. Yes, if you’re in a calamity zone, you can apply for the loan restructuring program.

Comment on When to Restart Paying the Maximum SSS Contribution by Nora

Hi Elena, I hope you can contribute this month and the next months until about 4 to 6 months before your 60th birthday -- SSS considers the last 60 contributions prior to the SEMESTER of retirement. Contribute 1,595 because your last contribution was 1,540. Those more than 55 are not allowed to increase their contributions by more than one salary bracket from last posted contribution per year. If you can write your last 60 contributions and corresponding salary credits (count 60 contributions backward from July 2015), and your calendar years of contributions, then we can estimate your pension amount. This is better: you enroll in online SSS so you can check your contributions, your CYS and your estimated pension. When 6 digits are asked during registration, try using 6 digits from your July 2015 receipt. If no longer recognized, pay for this month at SSS, so you can enroll online again after your payment is posted.

Hi Mo, sorry your Kabayan is most likely closed. Kabayan does not require a maintaining balance, but it requires at least one foreign remittance every 12 months.
