Comment on Good Changes in SSS Salary Loan Program by Nora

Hi Anagee, sorry, if you pay by installments, the interest and penalties will continue to be applied. Penalties are only reduced if there’s a loan condonation program, but I don’t know when the next program is offered, or if there’s one program within the next few years. The best option is to make large installments, so you can pay off your loan over a shorter period of time.

Comment on Pag-ibig Benefits — Retirement Claims by Alfredo S. Lacanlae

I’m a retired Deped employee and was active in the service when PAGIBIG fund was established. What I know is that Pagibig means Pagtutulungan ng 4 na bahagi. I -kaw (employee), B-anko, I-ndustriya (employer, at G-obyerno. With this system, Ikaw as employee will pay as participant a monthly contribution that will be matched by your employer. We as teachers of DepEd, our contributions are to be matched by the banks that are managing our money that should also be matched by the government. Pagibig will manage the funds that will be used for housing or real estate and also for provident loans to members. This means Pagibig is earning from the money entrusted to them. Why then that after 240 contributions or 20 years, when the time comes for the member to get his money, that what he gets back is only the money he has saved? Where is the portion of the employer? the bank that earned from the funds and the government? Just asking.

Hi Alfredo, just like you, I also thought years before that our Pag-ibig contributions will be matched not only by our employers, but also by government, as implied, whether unintentionally or not, when Pag-ibig was being launched. But years later when I checked the laws that established Pag-ibig, I read that it’s only the employer (Industry) that will match the employee (Ikaw) contribution. The role of government (Gobyerno) is to manage the funds mainly for housing, using the services of banks (B).
When the time comes that you get your Pag-ibig savings, your TAV (Total Accumulated Savings) printout should show your list of contributions, employer contributions and annual dividends, and what you should get as Total Provident Benefit is equal to your Total Contributions plus Total Employer Contributions plus Total Dividends. If your TAV printout do not show your employer contributions and your annual dividends, then go to Pag-ibig and ask for explanation and correction. Please comment again to share your updates.

Hi, Ms. Nora, thank you for the reply from last time. I would like to ask something. I would give birth to my daughter on February 2015 at Mandaluyong Hospital Annex. They already gave me some list of things to be use for my delivery (medicines, tools, etc.) that I need to buy before I give birth. If I buy those, wouldn’t they be deducted from the Philhealth benefit that the hospital will get. I planned to use my Philhealth. I heard that the expenses for those things would be amounting to more than P1,000.00 and since it’s a government hospital, I don’t think that they will charge a fee with their patients especially those who will deliver normally. They only asked to buy those things. Thank you, and I hope that you can give an opinion regarding this. God Bless!

Hi hart, I’m puzzled that they require both waiver and SPA. A waiver should be enough. But since you said that the consulate there does not issue waivers (I’m also puzzled by this; they’re supposed to help Pinoys), ask your father to ask Pag-ibig if you can include the waiver statement in the SPA, adding something like this to the SPA: “the power to make and sign in my behalf an Affidavit of Waiver, expressing my waiver of rights to all Pag-ibig benefits granted to the legal heirs of my mother.” If Pag-ibig says yes, then your attorney-in-fact can then make and sign an Affidavit of Waiver in your behalf.

Hi smile, if you’re giving birth this month, you should have paid for at least 3 months within Aug 2014 to Jan 2015.

Hi chellee, is this like the job of a real estate agent or independent insurance agent or independent dealer? What I know is that if you control these persons’ working hours, and if you require specific services from them, and if you require them to comply with company rules, then you have an employer-employee relationship with them, and you should report them to SSS. But if they’re independent contractors, then they are not your employees. About the training matter: I think it depends on the type and length of training and on whether the applicants understand and agree to the training period before rejection or formal hiring. Sorry I’m not able to respond fully, so you need to ask others.

Hi Leah, yes, if your atm card has a Mastercard logo, you can use it to pay online. There are some though, specially those issued a long time ago, that can’t be used to pay online. If yours cannot be used, register your account in BDO online banking, then if your online seller uses DragonPay, pay using DragonPay (click DragonPay among the options and then BDO, and then you will be prompted to your BDO online banking).

Hi Christine, sorry, I don’t know about Mandaluyong Annex, but you need to ask others about their experiences with the hospital and its policies. What I have observed is that in many government hospitals, when you use Philhealth, you’ll be treated under their pay program, and you will pay the doctor’s fee. And even if you’re a paying patient, you’re still required to buy supplies outside as usually they don’t have enough supplies. Ask the hospital how much you will spend if you use Philhealth and will they deduct or will you file directly with Philhealth, or if they offer No-Balance-Billing. God bless too

Hi… I opened a savings account last 2013 with a maintaining balance of 5000. I never withdraw below the maintaining balance because i knew they will charge me 300 pesos as penalty. Just yesterday,i asked my husband to withdraw the 5000 and to his surprise, only 4700 was left in my account, he then asked the teller about the withdrawal of 300 and they said they changed the maintaining blance to 10,000 and the changes was made just last year and we werent inform about it. Why is the maintaining balance so big? I was told before that only for 2000 you can open an account and that is ur maintining balance but when i was in bdo they told me it was 5000 then now 10,000? Im really confuse.

Hi shine, it’s good that only 300 was deducted, as the increase to 10k started in May 1, 2014. The increase was announced on the BDO website for some months before May 1. There were several account holders who lost much more to penalties. I’m puzzled that you weren’t charged for more. But of course I’m happy for you that you were only charged 300. About notifications, yes, banks should email account holders for major changes, as not all account holders go to the banks’ websites. You can close your passbook account or allow it to close automatically and open an atm-only account, which requires only 2k for maintaining balance.
